About
Dan Hatch brings a perspective to Wisconsin health care physical environment consulting that is genuinely rare: he spent five years as the person your architect was hoping wouldn’t find anything.
Now he works for you.
An architect by training, he built his early career across multiple states and internationally before relocating to Wisconsin with his family. Over time, he discovered a knack for the regulatory side of the industry, working as a plans examiner and inspector serving jurisdictions throughout the country.
For five years, Dan served as an Architect - Advanced with the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, Office of Plan Review and Inspection. Working closely with all three major DHS licensure bureaus, he conducted plan reviews, physical environment inspections, and Life Safety Code surveys across the full range of health care facility types in Wisconsin. The scope of this work included accessibility, health care ventilation, fire alarm, fire suppression, essential electrical, and medical gas systems.
His work at DHS extended well beyond review and inspection. He worked with the DHS Fire Authority on variances and waivers, was called in by the Bureau of Assisted Living to help facilities found out of compliance, and guided hospitals through difficult survey deficiencies: situations where his read on the code, understanding of the process, and insight into existing building conditions genuinely mattered. He authored official DHS code clarification publications and taught the code itself as a DHS Peer Advisor and at UW Madison College of Engineering’s annual Commercial Building Code Refreshers.
Dan left the department on excellent terms, wanting to be more present with his kids while they’re young, and to start something of his own. Threshold is it. For the health care clients who hire him, he brings what no one else in the state can offer: he knows the Wisconsin health care regulatory process from the inside.
